What a liner does

A chimney liner has three jobs: keep heat from reaching the wood framing around the chimney, protect the masonry from corrosive exhaust, and give the appliance a flue of the right size so it drafts properly. Many older homes have clay tile liners that have cracked over decades of use, or no liner at all.

Relining with stainless steel

We install stainless steel liners sized to the appliance they serve, whether that’s an open fireplace, a wood stove, or a gas or oil furnace. The liner runs the full height of the chimney and connects to a new cap at the top.

Firebox repairs

The firebox takes direct flame. Cracked firebrick and eroded mortar joints let heat reach the masonry behind it. We replace damaged firebrick and repoint with refractory mortar made for that heat.

Common questions

Why would a chimney need a liner after switching from oil to gas?

Gas appliances usually vent cooler, wetter exhaust. In an old flue that is too large or cracked, that exhaust can condense into acidic water that damages the masonry, or fail to draft properly. A correctly sized liner solves both.

Is a permit required?

Relining and new appliance installations may need a permit from your town building department. We'll let you know what applies to your job.
